Antoinette van Huyssteen

B.Dietetics (2008)

On occasions we stumble upon the right thing. Antoinette was completing her BSC degree when her passion for food and keen interest in health steered her towards Dietetics. She graduated with a B.Dietetics degree through the University of Pretoria in 2008. Practical sessions at Chris Hani Baragwanath and Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, along with Community service at Tembisa Hospital, proved to be unique building blocks to the start of her Dietetic career.

Antoinette practices as a Registered Dietitian in a variety of settings. She moved down to Cape Town and opened her practice, at Intercare Blaauwberg, in March 2010. A few months later she extended her dietetic services to include locum opportunities at numerous private hospitals. Again she stumbled upon opportunities in the rehabilitation setting when she accepted to provide Dietetic services to the Physical Rehabilitation unit at Vincent Pallotti in 2012. There-after Robin Trust Sub-Acute, in May 2015, and Oasis Care Centre, in February 2016, where added to the list of Physical rehabilitation units. Antoinette has been part of the Palm Tree Clinic team since July 2014, with increasing opportunities to contribute to the unit and programme provided. Since 2015 Antoinette has been fortunate to have assistance from other Dietitians at her practice.

She is passionate about helping patients with her knowledge in dietetics and aiding them to make healthy dietary changes to achieve nutrition goals. She enjoys working with adolescents and adults. In addition to caring for their appropriate nutritional requirements, she uses a creative approach to aid nutrition education. This is done through pictures and practical examples experienced in daily life. She enjoys aiding growth and understanding during group and individual sessions. She is able to adapt easily in most working environments and continuously seeks opportunities to learn and improve the services provided.

Dietitian

What role does the dietitian play in my management at Palm Tree Clinic?

Registered dietitians are trained in the field of medical nutrition therapy and are able to translate scientific evidence about health and nutrition into practical dietary advice. Sessions are provided in a group setting to aid general healthy eating or individual sessions for a more personalized approach to achieve set nutrition goals.
